TIME AND TIDE

maritime heritage experience

Just for Harbour Day, we are putting on a limited number of guided walks to help small groups discover the maritime history of Whitstable’s harbour and shore line. They won’t be too demanding and should be an engaging and fun experience!

Taking about an hour, your guide will lead you through some of the hidden places, explaining how the names and places in today’s Whitstable connect directly with the family and working lives of earlier maritime generations. Be prepared for some surprises!

The walks will start at thehorsebridge and end at the harbour side in our ‘History Tent’. Here you will have a chance to talk to our two ‘resident historians’ - Dr. Martin Watts of Christchurch University, Canterbury and Mr. Brian Baker who lives here in the town - about anything that was of particular interest to you on the walk.
